Pregame checklist

When I first started collecting balls in the early 1990s, the only thing I brought to games was my glove. It never occurred to me to bring hats of the visiting teams or carry their rosters. I hadn't yet invented the glove trick, so I didn't need string or rubber bands. I didn't go for autographs. I didn't take pictures. I didn't even bring a backpack. I usually caught one or two balls, and I'd stuff 'em in my pockets.
Now, I have so many strategies and gadgets and other random things to gather and do before leaving for games that I need a list to remember them all. Here it is, along with additional info on some of the items...

Checklist_13. I bring two in case I lose one.

4. The string is already tied to my glove, but it doesn't hurt to have extra.

6. I need pens for two reasons: labeling the balls and writing in my journal.

8. I once went a whole season using only quarters to pay for my Mets tickets. When the ladies in the ticket office finally complained, I threatened them with dimes.

10. Something I started in 1995. On game days, I write on the subway and during the down time after batting practice. I'm currently on Volume 112.

11. Digital. Very cheap. I never wear it. It stays in my pocket.

13. I bring my book in case stadium security REALLY gives me a hard time. Then I can pull it out and yell, "Don't you know who I am?!" I've only had to do this twice. It only worked once.

14. Gotta look young.

15. Protein bar. Bottle of water. Sometimes fruit and/or a sandwich. I refuse to support frivolous free-agent acquisitions by spending $4.75 for a crappy Aramark hot dog that'll leave me even hungrier than I was before I ate it.

16. Before I head out, I always take a look at the fridge to make sure I have the right number in my head.

17. The camera didn't become an everyday item until I started this blog way back on April 21st.

This blog is so interesting. It's also nice how you respond to us pretty quickly.

Oh, and I've been wondering - do you have every teams hat? I mean you have to act like a fan for the away team too, so I guess you'd need every hat.

Keep it up!

Oh, by the way, could I directly order the book from you, because I don't have an online account for Amazon or eBay, or anything like that.

Yes indeed. If you dont have a checklist, you're not ballin.

WOLFE-
Thanks so much. I appreciate it. To answer your questions, I own a hat of every team except the Nationals. I haven't gotten around to buying one because my Expos cap is still doing its job. As for my book, I'm sorry to say that I don't have any extra copies for sale. I just have a few left, and I need to hold onto them for future girlfriends/wives/grandkids/etc. (Okay, hopefully only one wife, but still...) Your best bet is to check out abebooks.com and do a search for my book there. The site will list specific stores and dealers who have it, and you can order a copy directly from them.

GROCERY MAN-

I like it. Your checklist, I understand, puts mine to shame...

Awesome, I will try and find it!

Thanks!

Well, here I am, 11 months later, using my own blog to help myself. I'm in San Diego. I left my checklist at home in NYC. And yet here it is. Only four hours and 23 minutes until I'll be running into PETCO for the first time.

sweet Zack!

I'm going to a game tommarow in Philadelphia, and when i first found ur blog 4 months ago, I searched through everything and found this post.
