158 balls

Question: What does it look like when you take 158 balls and arrange them in a (mostly straight) line?

Answer:

158balls.jpg

These are the balls I've snagged this season. I want to reach 200, which means I need to get at least 42 more, which means it's going to be a busy September...

(Only one neighbor happened to step out of his apartment while I was setting up the balls. It happened to be someone I'd never met before. Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm actually very normal. Please don't call the cops.)

Jinxed_5GUSTAVO WATCH, PART 6
The guy in charge of the Hample Jinx took a well-deserved vacation this Labor Day weekend to spend some time with his family, and since he doesn't have a cell phone, he couldn't be contacted in time for Gustavo Chacin's latest start. Thus, Mr. Evil was able to squeak out a win today by limiting the Red Sox to two hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. Not bad, Gus. Enjoy it while it lasts...

nice pic, i like how it shows the barry bonds ball in the case

are they in order?

SENOR-
Thanks for noticing. I made sure to put that one close to the camera so it would stand out.

NICK-

No. I just made it look that way by putting the Bonds ball ninth from the end (No. 2,901 out of 2,910). It would've taken a few hours to order them, and since there are two neighbors with dogs on my floor, I wanted to hurry up and finish before the balls got eaten.

Bored much? HAHA I am just kidding Zack. Man how come a line haha. Imagine if a neighbour walked out and seen the ball in the case, grabbed it, ran, sold it, bought some cheeseburgers and chicken and fries, then offered you some. That'd be very scary and messed (and a tad bit funny). Man talking about our disfunctional team, I just got home from a double header against the best team in the league. Result, all out brawl. HAHA good times. Well I am going to go play Mlb 2K6 and listen to the pnssy Cat Dolls (you can't say Pnssy with a u) and, Black Eyed Peas out of my bedroom window.(There playing out our race track. Ya what a place to have a big band come. Playing on a track full of horse ****).

Hum, interesting! Cool display. Maybe you can find some free time and I mean alot, to put all your career balls in order. After this year?

Gustavo Chacin a Shut out against the sox what is up with him.I hate him.or should i say what is upwihe the sox?
-kaylee

I mean it doesn't have to be in order, just in a long line like the above.

Danny, do you know how many balls he gots (I got more, well let's not be sick). Man he would have to go to the wall of China to line them up in a straight line.(I was joking about the ball joke).

curse? what curse? If the curse causes all the jays players to play as well as chacin did today can you do them a favor and curse the whoel team? :D

I'm almost definitely going Friday, and there's a good chance I'll go tuesday. It's my last night before school starts, so if you can find it in your heart to stay home... no its Ok i'm not going to force you to stay home.

LOGAN-
I actually do have a lot more free time these days, now that my book is (mostly) done. That said, this mini-ball project only took about half an hour from start to finish...that included setting up the balls, taking about 20 pics, and packing everything up. Although I don't know EVERY neighbor, I can say with 99% certainty that I'm faster than all of them. And if my Barry Bonds ball were at stake, that number would increase. I can't believe how crazy your team is.

DANNY-

I'd love to do that, but I don't have enough space. The diameter of a ball is almost three inches, so let's say there are four balls per foot. My display today took just under 40 feet. If I were going to lay out my entire collection...that would require well over 700 feet. Do you know anyone with a hallway that long? I could lay out all my balls on the outfield warning track from one foul pole to another and still have lots of balls left over. And then there's the whole "free time" issue. Maybe if everyone who reads this blog were to help out...

KAYLEE-

I'm saddened to hear of Gustavo's success.

TRUE PLAYA-

I will post a new Gustavo Watch soon...

CHUCKSTER-

Tuesday, huh? Well, you might see me there. That depends on whether or not I go tomorrow (which I think will depend only on the weather) and how many balls I get.

Hmm your going 2morrow to snag some balls eh? Well me 2 but at the Rogers Centre lets see who gets the most 2morrow, later gotta sleep now!

Beautiful. We'll compete from our respective countries.

Z,

This may ben my last hello for the year, since we're done with Rangers games. I had an AWESOME Saturday.

MercyMe, a great band that my wife and I like, was playing a concert before the game on the lawn area outside the ballpark. Well, we got in quickly, my wife saved the spot by the stage, and I ran in for about 15 minutes of BP before the 5 PM concert.

I got to a good HR spot, and after a 2 year drought, I caught a Michael Young BP HR on the FLY! YEAH, I was pumped, and it was like 2 minutes after I got there.

So I run out to the concert area, and waited for it to begin. Great show, and guess what? The drummer looks at the crowd after the last song and sorta waves the drumsticks. I yell out "Robby!" and he throws me one. And in one day, I got a ball and a concert drum stick!

Later man!

Dan

PS-I was at the Cowboys/Vikings game on Thursday and I got a guys game used receiver glove after the game! I swear, I had a great run of stuff, huh?

OH another thing. I got a student of mine interested in snagging. I taught him the simple "ask by name" strategy, and he comes into my class early on Thursday to show my a ball he got from Kris Benson. I was really happy to see his excitement, it's really a fun hobby.

Aww, no balls = no hellos? Come on. You can surely find other things to report as the baseball season winds down. But anyway, that IS quite a run you had.*****. Congrats, three times over. I like Michael Young. He's a frickin superstar, and 95% of baseball fans probably haven't even heard of the guy.

Glad to hear you're getting the young ones hooked on snagging. You're right. Much fun indeed.

Just curious if you saw the kid at the Cubs game throw Barry's homer yesterday. He did it so fast that it looked like the real thing. But at Wrigley (where they throw everything back), sometimes a lot of fake balls get thrown back as well. They showed him playing with another ball later, so who knows.

P.S. Just another reason to hate the Cubs. I don't care if it's Bonds....you DON'T throw homers back.

Hey hey hey

Caught 2 balls in SD

I was so clumsy, I dropped 3 and called a player the wrong name. ack. That was rather humiliating.

Anyways, just wondering If you were gonna go see the Mets and Dodgers on Thursday...

If you do, wear blue and ask Takashi Saito for a ball. He has given me two balls on the same day on two seperate occasions.

I love the dodgers bullpen. Just don't ask Maddux for anything.

Well, no one can say you're not "ballsy."

Ba-dum-dum.

wow zack went down to see the jays and indians. nothing! again! Realy bad day thought gates were opening at 11 for a 1 start but they opened at 11 30 which confused the **** outta us. With 4 people who went only 1 of us got a ball and that was a fluke my buddy tied his glove to his knapsack reached over the big fence and knocked it over to where he could grab it. tough day

Well you beat me Zack no balls, gates opened 30 mins late, so many kids. Missed a homer by inches that fell behind the fence during bp and then Grady Seizmore had 2 balls tossed one to a kid but he dropped it and the next one was comming to me, but Seizmore saw the kid dropped it and gave him the other ball, boy was I pissed o well, found 5 ticket stubs on the ground so 5 pizza slices.

Pizza Slices 5

Balls 0

P.S. I was getting a Gustavo auto when he shut me down and skipped me, but I went around and shoved him my ball, where he stared at me cause I knew he tried to lose me. Also he was gonna sign with a sharpie under the logo but I gave him a pen and told him to sign it on the sweet spot where he gave me a dirty look, but signed anyway. I hate Gustavo now.

I'm going to Shea tommorow. Are you coming, Zack?

that ***** about gustavo...but yea, a well deserved vacation...lol

Also got a Kevin Kouzmanoff auto on a ticket stub, if you didnt know he became the 3rd ever person to hit a salami on his 1st MLB pitch. I dunno wheter to use it on pizza cause he is a no namer, but its rare to do what he did, what should i do?

EVERYONE-
I just got back from Shea. Numerous balls were snagged. I'm gonna get started on the entry, and I'll answer all these comments when I'm done. That will be LATE.

hey dodger dude..im going to the brewer dodger game on wednsday.which players sign? my friend went with his authentic betemit jersey on and got him to sign 2 cards, he almost got nomar, and almost kenny lofton..so can you give me any tips

have no idea **** carlos pena is but he just hit a walkoff for the red sox!

Bergin42-
Im not big on Autographs. I know that the Dodgers love to support thier fans wherever they go. Wearing a dodger hat may help.

Personally I dont usually go for Autographs unless the chance passes me by... which isn't often. I know Kenny Loften is a really cool guy, seems like the life of the clubhouse. I would go for Andre Either If I were you. I think he will be big one day. Other wise, just get them to notice you.

TIFFANY-
Hi. I didn't see the kid throw it back, but I heard about it from a fellow snagger who said it was clearly a fake ball that got chucked. I agree...I think it's NUTS to throw a home run ball back on the field, but I have to respect passion even when it doesn't overlap with my own. Still, I think it's fabulous for you to hate the Cubs.

DODGER DUDE-

I'll be there on Thursday as long as the weather's nice. Good idea about wearing blue, and thanks for the heads up on Saito/Maddux. If there's anything else you think I should know, don't hesitate. Sorry about your rough time at PETCO, but hey, at least you walked away with two.

ZOE-

I've never heard that one before.

:-)

TRUE PLAYA & JIMMY-

So...both of you guys were at Rogers Centre? That stinks about the gates. I'm really sorry to hear that it didn't go well for you guys. You get a free slice of pizza for each ticket stub?*****! That's a pretty sweet deal. Definitely keep the K.K. autograph. It'll be worth a lot more than a slice of pizza someday, if it isn't already. Funny about Gustavo...in a not-so-funny way...if you know what I mean. Jeez.

GREG-

Not sure yet. It's supposed to rain, and if it does, I want no part of Shea. I got enough balls last night that I'm not feeling obligated to go back for a second straight day.
