6/8/07 at Great Adventure
If you thought last night's crowd of 54,240 at Yankee Stadium was big, you should've been at Great Adventure. I was. For the first time in my life.
The weather was perfect (sunny skies, 82 degrees, relative humidity 62%, wind out of the southeast at 6 mph), but the place itself wasn't. Not only was the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster out of service, but the lines for everything else were endless.
Jona and I waited over five hours to go on five different rides which lasted a total of five minutes. Basically, it was a whole day of waiting...
Even the line for grilled chicken and sausages and bottled (tap) water was interminable.
But the rides WERE fun. Here we are freaking out on Nitro:

Of course, after having paid $15 to park half a mile from the entrance and buying two general admission tickets for a total of $128.38--not to mention having eaten a whole lot of overpriced/undertasty junk food--we weren't about to fork over an additional $12.99 for the official glossy photo of ourselves, so I waited 'til the computer operator looked the other way and snapped a pic of the pic off the screen. In yo' face!

I was there yesterday as well. We ran to Kingda Ka first and we only had to wait an hour to go on it but it closed soon after we left, it seemed that when one ride opened another closed. Hope you had a good time

Hi Zack. Didn't go to any theme parks yesterday, but I did catch my first Ichiro BP home run. I've been trying to add him to my list for a couple of years now. Mission accomplished. Four days until Devil Rays/Padres in Tampa. Will update you later.

yeah great adventure is a waste. the rides are awesome but all you do is wait on lines, and pay 65 bucks per ticket. the only way to have fun there is if you spend another $30 on a flash pass, so you dont have to wait on line.

Zack! you gotta go when it's just a little overcast!
I did that at six flags great america, and I could easily walk on to any ride I wanted.
By 3:00 It started raining, but I had already rode every ride 4 times :)
and from the last post
"
Zack, where do you think I should sit against the Giants at Wrigley? I was thinking of sitting just right of straight away center.....but I really don't know.
I can't sit in dead right because those are reserved "bleacher box" seats.
thanks

so yankee game last night...unfortunately i didnt get any balls, but i did manage to get zack duke and ian snell (who may be the nicest guy in baseball) twice each.
my friend phil who doesnt collect balls or autos kinda got into it. he's a pirates fan and thatw hy we went in the first place. so he got his first ball ever from damaso marte and then got the ball signed by ian snell
we lost some time of BP cause the 4 was closed due to police investigation, so we had to work quickly. we then took the 7 to fth ave and then hopped on the D and took that to like 137 street and then switched over to the B and then got off. the lines to enter the stadium was conspicuously absent and i was in within about 3 mins tops
so anyway, it was a great game, and evern though we sat in tier 36 (last section in the LF upper deck) it was a great view and we had a great time
so we took the 4 back to grand central and got there at like 11:15 meaning that we missed our 11:08 train back to westchester. so what better way to spend the time waiting at the hotel for the guys to come back. so i got xavier nady, soloman torres, and adam laroche at the hotel. then we left.
that was the day, plus i had an amazing slice of chicken pizza for lunch up here by me...

yes!!!!! we won our little league game today. it was 2-1, and i had the first RBI, and the winning run. before the game my coach told me that if we won we play at 12, which meant i couldn't go to the Yankee game. i forgot about it until after the game when my coach wuz like, tommorow's game is at 4!! i was like jumpin' up and down cuz that means i can go to both games!! but i only get a corked jason giambi bat.
and roger clemens is not the savior

JOHN-
Ohmygod, are you serious?!
PADRE LEIGH-
Congrats! I got Ichiro to toss me a ball a couple years ago during BP, so between the two of us, we have him covered.
BCIMONS-
If only I'd known that about Great Adventure before I went. A Little League game with a total of three runs? I didn't know there was such a thing. Way to go.
CUBS-
Overcast. Yeah. Good point. As for Wrigley, I assume your goal is to catch a Bonds homer, yes? He's been hitting lots of his homers to right-center, so the area you mentioned sounds pretty good.
JONELI-
Bummer about the subway, but congrats on all the autos. Tier 36? Ouch. I couldn't be paid to sit up there, but if you had fun, that's all that matters. Chicken pizza: yum.
EVERYONE-
Within the next day or two, I'll be posting another YouTube video and talking about my plans for next week. Stay tuned...

I may or may not be going down to Baltimore for the Thursday game next week against the Nats. I would rather go Wednesday, but I'm busy. I have a feeling you're going down there next week too.

****. I just noticed that you posted this on my last entry, but anyway, you are correct...if all goes according to plan, I will indeed be going to Camden in the very near future.

Cool post. Hey, someone from Iraq gave your book a nice plug on Alyssa's comments at http://alyssa.mlblogs.com.

Zack, sorry I'm telling you this after your Great Adventure trip, but a lot of Coca Cola cans have "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" Great Adventure coupons on them. My friend actually came over today to watch the Mets game, and I had one can of Coke left, and it had the coupon on it, so he took it with him to use next week when he heads there. I'm not sure if the coupon is for specific days of the week or anything, but it's worth looking into if you head back.
Also, they have the season pass which pays for itself in 3 trips.

MARK-
Whoa, thanks. I never would've seen that if you hadn't given me a heads-up.
PSU-
Oh, so NOW you tell me.
:-)
I have no plan to go back there anytime soon, but that's good to know for future reference.

i hate yankee stadium soooooooooo much. the yanks didn't take BP, the pirates could barely hit it put, and they didnt throw many in the stands either. there was no chance to use the glove trick, and i came close to catching 1 ball, but i was too short. i stayed about 5 rows up on the wall where the gap between the stadium and the bleachers are. there was one pirate that was bombing them, but most were in that gap. one was 2 rows over my head, and the other 3 inches to far in out in the gap for me 2 reach.
then i had to leave in the 4th for my LL game. it was a crazy game. 4-3 final. in the bottom of the 6th, we made 2 baserunning errors, and with 2 outs, and runners on 2nd and 3rd, i was up. but the 3rd pitch was a wild pitch, and the guy on third scored. happy that we won, but i wanted to hit.

Sounds like a tough day at Yankee Stadium. I know exactly how you felt. Remember a couple weeks ago when you and Zack were both there? Well, I was there too, and I got nothing during all of BP. Everybody hates Yankee Stadium, so don't worry about getting shut out. I can't wait until they demolish that ****-hole. (But good job at your Little League game.)

the coke cans(and you get get little flyers in gas stations..exxons i think) are $10 of weekends. I don't much care for coasters, but Great Adventure is best in October for Fright Fest, becaues it's cooler, less crowded, and usually cheaper. Plus they have some haunted house stuff. *shrug* I actually liked Kingda Ka. Hey, if you thought it was crowded now, imagine a summer weekend.

BCIMONS-
Wow, that sounds like a nightmare, but like Greg said...congrats on the Little League game.
GREG-
Yeah.
CEETAR-
A summer weekend? Oh god. I don't even want to think about that.
