Just checking in...

So, yeah. I caught the first home run of the Derby last night. Crazy stuff. Thanks to everyone who was watching. Extra thanks to those who left comments about it on my last entry. Extra EXTRA thanks to my friend Brad for bringing me to San Francisco in the first place.

If there's any bad news (other than the fact that I now have a killer blister on the bottom of my small left toe), it's that I haven't even started writing about the Futures Game. I was thinking about skipping that entry and getting right to the Derby, but instead I'm just gonna take my time and write about everything in order.

Meanwhile, don't forget to look for me on TV later today at the All-Star Game. I'll be sitting in the same spot in right-center field, and I'll be wearing the same obnoxious/lucky shirt.

1. are you gonna count that? I think you said you would... just checking.

2. I hope you get a homerun tomorrow too! Hopefully Soriano hits it!

He has to count it! I would! The home run derby is almost bigger than any regular season game. Maybe the biggest event of the season period although this years would have been really boring had Zack not caught the first ball of the Derby!

Again, way to be in the right place at the right time Zack! That is what it's all about!

WOW!

CONGRATULATIONS on "snagging" the home run ball hit by Justin Morneau!

What are the odds of catching a ball on national TV live?

You've got a better chance of getting hit by lightning and you make the flipping catch -- unbelievable!

How did you make out during batting practice?

Good Luck during BP today and during the all-star game...

Bring it on Zack!

Zacker:

It's a good thing that you didn't rent a kayak because you would have been ship out of luck!

That was an awesome snag! I was thinking about u when Chris Berman and Joe Morgan was talking, and then there's u jumping up and down and screaming... too bad the last hitter wasn't a lefty who could hit it 2 your area. How cool would that be if u caught the first homer and the last of the derby?

Anyway, too bad Matt couldn't couldn't get in the finals. He was crushing the ball in the second round.

Zack:

Please don't forget to tape up that killer blister on your toe as we will be watching you in action once again. Bring it on buddy!

How much did your tickets cost for the game? And how far in advance did you have to purchase them?

CONGRATS ZACK!!!

i was watching it on tv at my work and i was like omg its going to where zack is sitting, omg ZACK CAUGHT IT!! haha its bene nice reading for the past couple of years of your great adventures, looking forward to the all-star game.

mike:

I'm pretty sure he got free tickets.

Couple things - Congrats on the snag. Couldn't have gone to a more deserving fan.

Also, if you go to amazon.com and type in "baseball", your book is the first thing that pops up!

Hey Zack, Nice Grab on the Morneau bomb, it was very exciting to see you live! Keep it up and I hope you have luck in the allstar game today.

NICE CATCH! I was at work, and in the middle of telling someone at the bar about how you were at that game, and BAM!

woooot!

P.S I would definately count that in the collection!

Zack, You are amazing. Of all the thousands of people in the stands last nite you were the one who caught the first hr of the night. i thing it is so fitting that only the professional ball snagger there got the first of the night. Keep up the awsome job.

Zack, very nice job yesterday. So is your hotel anywhere near the hotels that the players are staying at? I bet those hotel lobbies are mob scenes! I'm sure all of the players probably use aliases too.

If anyone is interested, you can watch All-Star Game batting practice live at foxsports.com starting at 5:00 (Eastern time) tonight.

Zack, did you get one of those willy mayes balls? he looked like he was running out fast.

Zack, I saw you on tv when the long flyball was hit in the frist couple of innings.

EVERYONE-
I just got back to NYC. Now I'm going to bed. When I wake up, I'll start blogging...

zack, are you gonna put something up tonight?

Hmm. Not sure. I've written about 2,200 words, and I still need to edit. How much energy do I have left? Is anyone else even awake? If I don't post the entry tonight, it'll definitely be up sometime later this afternoon.

Saw you on TV with a few other people at Home Run Derby. A few people made a comment about some dude running around in the stands trying to catch balls. They asked why isnt he staying in his seat like he is supposed too. PS, where is your post that you promised? It is late.

The "dude" running around the stadium sure looked like you. He had a multicolored striped shirt on.
